The Arizona Diamondbacks' official bag policy says the rule is meant to improve safety and speed up entry, and that all bags are subject to inspection. The requirement isn't limited to game days: Chase Field's A-to-Z guide separately confirms it applies to "D-backs games and all Chase Field events."
For a standard bag, the rule is simple: bring one clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12". The bag shouldn't have obscured interior pockets — staff need to be able to see what's inside. A one-gallon clear resealable plastic bag (the kind sold as a freezer or storage bag) is also permitted as an alternative to a structured clear bag.
A small clutch or wallet is allowed on its own, separate from the clear-bag allowance, with a maximum size of 6.5" x 4.5" — about the size of a hand — with or without a handle or strap. (A couple of other official pages list the same measurements in the opposite order, 4.5" x 6.5"; it's the same size, just written differently.) The official pages don't explicitly state whether this small clutch is exempt from the "must be clear" requirement, so we're not characterizing it as a "non-clear bag exception" — treat that specific point as [NEEDS VERIFICATION] until Chase Field confirms it in writing.
The requirement isn't new, either: Chase Field's Security page states the clear bag policy has been in effect since February 15, 2020, when it began with D-backs Fan Fest ahead of that season. That's the policy's effective date, not a "last updated" date — the official pages we checked don't display a separate last-updated timestamp.

What's not allowed
Chase Field's official policy page and its A-to-Z guide both list the same items as not permitted, regardless of whether they're made of clear material:

- Bags or wallets larger than 6.5" x 4.5" that aren't a compliant clear bag
- Luggage
- Computer bags
- Camera bags
- Briefcases
- Fanny packs
- Cinch bags
- Other oversized bags
A backpack being made of clear plastic doesn't change its status — it's prohibited as a bag style, not just for being opaque.
A note on coolers: Chase Field's official Events Policy lists coolers among prohibited items. The regular-game guide doesn't separately address coolers, but given that venue-wide restriction, we'd plan to leave coolers at home for Diamondbacks games too — check with Chase Field directly if you have a specific need. (You flagged this one as a judgment call last time — flagging again here in case you want different wording before this goes live.)
Exceptions: medical items, diaper bags, and seat cushions
Diaper bags: Families can bring a diaper bag if it's smaller than 11" x 11" x 15". It will be inspected before you're allowed in — the official FAQ treats this as a separate allowance and doesn't say the bag also has to be clear, so we're presenting it as permitted subject to inspection, not as a bag that skips every other screening step.
Medical items: Chase Field says exceptions to the prohibited-items list may be made for medically necessary items — it's a discretionary screening outcome, not an automatic pass regardless of size. Use the ADA screening lanes at Gate A or Gate E; everything remains subject to search and can still be denied at management's discretion. If you have medical or other special needs, Chase Field recommends contacting its Disability Services Manager before you arrive.
Seat cushions: A one-piece foam seat cushion is allowed if it's no larger than 18 inches wide and has no pockets, zippers, or concealable areas.
Blankets: Blankets are permitted. Carry them over your shoulder — they're subject to inspection like everything else, and can also be carried in a qualifying clear bag.
Food and drink: Food is allowed in when it's carried in a clear plastic bag under the venue's bag rules. For drinks, Chase Field permits sealed plastic bottles of non-flavored, non-carbonated water, empty plastic water bottles (which you can fill inside), sealed single-serving juice boxes, formula, and baby food. Metal or glass containers and Thermos-style containers aren't permitted. The official pages we checked don't list a maximum bottle size, so treat any specific ounce limit as [NEEDS VERIFICATION] rather than assumed.
What to do if your bag doesn't comply
If you show up with a bag that doesn't meet the policy, you'll be asked to return it to your vehicle. Complimentary disposable clear freezer bags are typically available at a few points around the stadium perimeter, so you can move your belongings into a compliant bag on the spot — but the empty non-compliant bag still isn't allowed through the gate. Simply emptying it doesn't make it admissible.
If you arrived by bus, light rail, taxi, or rideshare and don't have a vehicle to return a bag to, Chase Field points to storage lockers, available on a first-come, first-served basis, with stored items subject to inspection. Gate staff don't check or store bags at the entrances themselves.
One caution here: Chase Field's own official pages currently give inconsistent details about the locker provider and location — one section references a "Mobile Locker Company," a separate Security page names a different provider (BinBox) on the northwest plaza, and the policy FAQ still describes more locker information as "coming soon" in places. Because the venue's own pages disagree, we're only saying storage lockers may be available, and marking the specific provider, location, and fee as [NEEDS VERIFICATION] until Chase Field confirms it directly. Check Chase Field's current site before you rely on this.
Is the bag policy different for concerts and other events?

That said, we didn't find a separate general concert bag-size standard on the official pages that replaces the 12" x 6" x 12" rule — but individual concerts and special events can and do publish their own event-specific instructions in addition to the general policy. Don't assume every event at Chase Field uses identical wording; check the page for your specific event before you leave home.
