Small Bag Size Limits Explained: 4.5x6.5, 5x9, 5x8x1, 9x5x2 & 10x6x2
A 5 x 9 x 1 bag fits within the 5 x 9 x 2-inch limit at Honda Center’s non-Ducks events and the 9 x 5 x 2-inch limit at T-Mobile Arena and Rate Field, with 1 inch of depth to spare. No venue we checked publishes a 5 x 9 x 1 limit. Check your venue’s bag policy before the event.
Small bag size limits at a glance:
- Small clutch: Bank of America Stadium allows small bags up to 4.5 x 6.5 inches.
- Event maximum: Honda Center limits bags to 5 x 9 x 2 inches at non-Ducks events.
- Personal bags: T-Mobile Arena allows small personal bags or purses up to 9 x 5 x 2 inches.
- Shallow bags: Total Mortgage Arena allows clutches and clear bags up to 8 x 5 x 1 inches.
- Larger purse: Wintrust Arena lists non-clear purses or bags up to 10 x 6 x 2 inches.
What is a 5 x 9 x 1 bag?
A bag measuring 5 x 9 x 1 inches has sides of 5 inches and 9 inches, with 1 inch of depth. None of the venue pages checked for this guide publishes that exact limit. The closest published limits are 5 x 9 x 2 inches and 9 x 5 x 2 inches.
These bag measurements leave 1 inch of spare depth within either 2-inch limit. The same bag also sits within dimensions of 10 x 6 x 2 inches.
A 5 x 9 bag description gives only 2 measurements, so check the packed depth too. A bag with a 9-inch side exceeds limits of 4.5 x 6.5 inches and 8 x 5 x 1 inches.
How do you read a bag size like 9 x 5 x 2?
A bag size of 9 x 5 x 2 inches describes 3 side measurements: 9 inches, 5 inches and 2 inches. A 2-number limit, such as 4.5 x 6.5 inches, gives no depth number. The number order varies between venues, so measure all 3 sides and compare each measurement.
A 9 x 5 x 2 bag has the same box dimensions as a 5 x 9 x 2 bag. An 8 x 5 x 1 bag has the same box dimensions as one measuring 5 x 8 x 1 inches. A 5 by 9 bag description leaves the third measurement unstated.
No venue in this guide says whether staff measure a bag upright or accept one turned on its side. Measure all 3 sides and compare each one with the venue’s numbers before you go.
Which venues use a 5 x 9 x 2 or 9 x 5 x 2 limit?
Honda Center’s event entry rules, SAP Center’s bag policy and Tech CU Arena’s bag policy publish dimensions of 5 x 9 x 2 inches. T-Mobile Arena’s bag policy and Rate Field’s code of conduct list 9 x 5 x 2 inches. The dimensions serve different purposes: a maximum at some venues and a screening threshold at others.
Honda Center: the event changes the maximum
Honda Center’s event entry rules allow bags and purses up to 5 x 9 x 2 inches at non-Ducks events. That maximum includes clear bags, with 1 bag per guest. Anaheim Ducks games use the smaller limit of 4 x 6 x 1.5 inches.
Honda Center allows medical bags and diaper bags up to 12 x 12 x 12 inches at all events, with extra screening. Backpacks of any size are not allowed. A 5 x 9 purse needs a depth check and the correct event policy before you compare dimensions.
Honda Center does not offer bag check. Bag check is a service for storing a bag during an event.
SAP Center and Tech CU Arena: a screening threshold
SAP Center and Tech CU Arena recommend bags no larger than 5 x 9 x 2 inches for faster entry. Both venues’ bag policies accept larger bags up to 20 x 14 x 11 inches. The recommended size is not their maximum.
Bags exceeding 5 x 9 x 2 inches go through X-ray screening at both venues, clear or not. Tech CU Arena applies that screening rule to medical and infant bags too. SAP Center requires bags to fit under your seat and has no bag check or lockers.
T-Mobile Arena: clear bags share the small limit
T-Mobile Arena’s bag policy allows small personal bags or purses up to 9 x 5 x 2 inches. The same cap applies to clear stadium bags. Fanny packs and crossbody bags must meet that limit too. Straps are not part of the measurement.
T-Mobile Arena does not allow backpacks. The arena’s event and bag check FAQs say some events may use a modified bag policy. Bag check lockers are on Toshiba Plaza next to Allegiant Stage.
T-Mobile Arena’s bag check opens when arena doors open and closes 45 minutes after the event. Payment is by card or mobile pay, with no cash. T-Mobile Arena prohibits re-entry, and stored bags cannot be reached during the event.
Rate Field: a small non-clear clutch allowance
Rate Field’s code of conduct allows non-clear clutches up to 9 x 5 x 2 inches, with or without a handle or strap. A clutch is a small handheld bag. The Chicago White Sox ballpark also allows clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags up to 12 x 12 x 6 inches.
Rate Field does not allow:
- Backpacks, including clear backpacks.
- Drawstring bags, including clear drawstring bags.
- Non-clear bags larger than 9 x 5 x 2 inches.
- Any bag larger than 12 x 12 x 6 inches.
Rate Field allows diaper bags when a child is present and medically necessary bags, with extra search. The published policy lists both clear and non-clear bag sizes without specifying a per-person bag count.
Which venues allow a 5 x 8 x 1 bag?
Total Mortgage Arena’s bag policy allows clutches and clear bags up to 8 x 5 x 1 inches. A bag measuring 5 x 8 x 1 inches has the same box dimensions. The 1-inch depth limit matters as much as the other measurements.
A 5 x 8 x 1 purse sits within dimensions of 5 x 9 x 2 inches and 9 x 5 x 2 inches. Honda Center’s non-Ducks policy and T-Mobile Arena’s bag policy publish those respective limits. Wintrust Arena’s purse and bag policy lists 10 x 6 x 2 inches, which also accommodates these bag measurements. The same bag exceeds a limit of 4.5 x 6.5 inches.
Total Mortgage Arena also allows bags for medical use and small diaper bags. The policy’s 1-inch depth cap is shallower than a limit of 5 x 8 x 2 inches.
Dodger Stadium’s bag policy allows non-clear wristlets and clutches up to 5 x 8 x 2 inches. The ballpark also allows clear plastic bags up to 12 x 12 x 6 inches. Our Dodger Stadium bag policy guide covers those published allowances.
A 5 x 8 x 2 bag matches those non-clear dimensions at Dodger Stadium. Its 2-inch depth exceeds Total Mortgage Arena’s 1-inch depth limit, even though the other 2 sides match.
Which venues allow a of 10 x 6 x 2 bag or purse?
The United Center allows a small purse or personal bag up to 10 x 6 x 2 inches at Chicago Blackhawks games. That rule comes from the Chicago Blackhawks ticket resources. Wintrust Arena’s purse and bag policy also lists non-clear purses or bags up to 10 x 6 x 2 inches.
The United Center does not allow backpacks at Chicago Blackhawks games. The policy lists limited exceptions for medical bags and diaper bags. The cited rule covers those games, so check the policy for a different event.
Wintrust Arena’s venue policy also allows clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags up to 12 x 6 x 12 inches. A one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag is another listed option. Medically necessary items and diaper bags are allowed after inspection.
A 10 x 6 x 2 bag exceeds limits of 9 x 5 x 2 inches and 5 x 9 x 2 inches. Both its 10-inch side and its 6-inch side exceed the corresponding 9-inch and 5-inch allowances.
What is the 4.5 x 6.5 small bag limit?
The NFL clear bag policy allows a non-clear bag measuring 4.5 x 6.5 inches or smaller alongside 1 larger clear bag. A clear bag policy sets size and material rules for bags carried into a venue. This 2-number small bag limit supplies no depth number.
The larger allowance covers clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags up to 12 x 6 x 12 inches, or a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag. Our NFL clear bag policy guide explains those options. The clear bag size guide covers the smaller dimensions in detail.
Bank of America Stadium’s bag policy allows purses, bags, clutches or fanny packs up to 4.5 x 6.5 inches. The stadium also allows a clear bag up to 12 x 6 x 12 inches. Our Bank of America Stadium guide covers that venue’s policy.
AT&T Stadium’s bag policy allows a small clutch up to 4.5 x 6.5 inches, with or without a handle or strap. That allowance accompanies a clear tote up to 12 x 6 x 12 inches.
How do the small bag size limits compare?
Small bag size limits differ in depth, event coverage and whether the stated number is a maximum. A cap of 8 x 5 x 1 inches allows less depth than 5 x 8 x 2 inches. A 4.5 x 6.5 inches limit lists no depth number, so check depth separately when comparing venues.
Petco Park’s entry policies allow clutches and purses up to 5 x 7 inches. The ballpark also allows single-compartment clear plastic bags up to 12 x 6 x 12 inches. Our Petco Park bag policy guide explains those allowances.
The third measurement can change the fit, and the same dimensions can be either a maximum or a screening threshold.
A bag measuring 4.5 x 6.5 inches still needs a depth check against a 3-number limit. At 2 inches deep, that bag exceeds Total Mortgage Arena’s 1-inch depth cap.
Does a small bag have to be clear?
Small bags can be non-clear where the venue’s published policy allows them. The NFL’s policy allows non-clear bags up to 4.5 x 6.5 inches, while Rate Field’s code of conduct permits non-clear clutches up to 9 x 5 x 2 inches. A clear bag does not automatically receive a larger allowance.
The other explicit non-clear allowances in this guide are:
- Wintrust Arena’s venue policy: purses or bags up to 10 x 6 x 2 inches.
- Dodger Stadium’s bag policy: wristlets and clutches up to 5 x 8 x 2 inches.
A 5 x 9 clear bag still needs a depth check. Honda Center’s non-Ducks policy applies its maximum of 5 x 9 x 2 inches to clear bags too. T-Mobile Arena’s bag policy requires clear stadium bags to stay within 9 x 5 x 2 inches.
Can you bring a small bag and a clear bag together?
The NFL’s clear bag policy allows 1 larger clear bag plus 1 non-clear bag measuring 4.5 x 6.5 inches or smaller. That stated allowance does not establish the bag count at other venues. Honda Center’s non-Ducks policy allows only 1 bag per guest, including clear bags.
Rate Field, Wintrust Arena, Dodger Stadium and Petco Park publish both a clear bag size and a small bag size. Their supplied policy text does not specify how many bags each guest may carry. Those paired size listings alone do not confirm permission to carry 2 bags.
T-Mobile Arena’s bag policy keeps every permitted bag within 9 x 5 x 2 inches, including clear stadium bags. A clear bag at the larger limit of 12 x 6 x 12 inches exceeds every small limit compared in this guide.
How to measure a purse or bag for a venue size limit
Purse dimensions are the width, height and depth you measure after packing the bag for your event. Contents can push out the depth, so measure the bag with your event items inside. T-Mobile Arena excludes straps from its measurements; other venues may describe handles or straps without explaining how to measure them.
- Pack the bag with what you plan to carry.
- Measure the width across the widest point.
- Measure the height from the base to the top edge.
- Measure the depth at the thickest point.
- Leave the strap out only where the venue says so. T-Mobile Arena’s bag policy expressly excludes straps.
- Compare each measurement with the venue’s published numbers and check its bag policy page before the event.
The Bag Size Checker is a tool for checking bag dimensions. AT&T Stadium and Rate Field allow their specified small bags with or without a handle or strap. Those allowances do not establish a strap-measuring rule for every venue.

Small bag size limits FAQ
Does a 5 x 9 x 1 bag fit a limit of 9 x 5 x 2 inches?
A bag measuring 5 x 9 x 1 inches fits within dimensions capped at 9 x 5 x 2 inches. Its depth leaves 1 inch below that cap. The measurements establish the size comparison; the event's published policy still determines permitted bag types and other entry conditions.
Is a 9 x 5 x 2 purse the same as a 5 x 9 x 2 purse?
A purse measuring 9 x 5 x 2 inches has the same box dimensions as one measuring 5 x 9 x 2 inches. The reversed order alone does not establish how staff measure a bag. It also does not confirm that staff accept a bag presented in a different orientation.
Can you bring a 10 x 6 x 2 purse to the United Center?
The United Center allows a purse up to 10 x 6 x 2 inches at Chicago Blackhawks games, according to the team's ticket resources. Check the event-specific policy for other events. Backpacks are not allowed, and the policy lists limited exceptions for medical bags and diaper bags.
Do bag straps count toward a small bag size limit?
T-Mobile Arena's bag policy excludes straps when applying its limit of 9 x 5 x 2 inches. AT&T Stadium and Rate Field allow their specified small bags with or without a handle or strap. Those statements do not establish a single measuring rule for every venue.
What concert bag size can you bring?
Concert purse size limits depend on the venue and any event-specific changes. T-Mobile Arena's bag policy lists 9 x 5 x 2 inches, though the arena says some events use modified rules. Honda Center's event entry rules allow bags up to 5 x 9 x 2 inches at non-Ducks events, including clear bags.
